‘All-Round Good For You’ Juice
I recently started learning about the incredible health benefits of juicing beetroots and carrots, and after having some fun in the kitchen and adding some of my other favourite fruits and veggies to juice with this deep pink concoction, I truly believe I have created one of the most delicious (and most nourishing) juices I’ve ever tried!
The super-star ingredient of this beautiful juice is beetroot. Why juice beets? Beetroot juice has been shown to:
encourage weight loss
is a powerful antioxidant
powerful aphrodisiac
prevents signs of ageing
moisturises dry skin
promotes hair growth
improves liver function
reduces inflammation
helps prevent cancer
improves stamina
prevents & manages diabetes
boosts athletic performance & energy levels
prevents dementia
lowers blood pressure
helps decrease arthritis in joints
combats anemia
accelerates detoxification
keeps eyes healthy
The nutritional profile of all the fruits and veggies in this juice are phenomenal, but I’d love to highlight that beets are PACKED with essential vitamins and minerals.. yay!
The powerful pigment found within beetroot, that gives this juice its stunning colour is known as betacyanin, which helps to stimulate and enhance the process in the liver known as ‘Phase 2 Detoxification’. This is one of a series of processes that the liver uses to turn harmful toxins, such as alcohol and metabolic waste into harmless substances that can then be removed from the body. Betacyanin has been found to speed up certain chemical reactions that are involved in the smooth running of this process. It is also widely known that betacyanin can stimulate the production of bile, which can further aid the removal of toxins from the body.
I love beet juice on its own, although THIS specific juice recipe I’m sharing with you below is my ‘go-to’ and absolute favourite, as there are other ingredients that add wonderful flavours and nutrition to this drink.
The apples, carrots and lemon will disguise the earthy flavours, and create a stunning pink colour, which is perfect for those trying to introduce juicing to children and first-timers. – When seeing a vibrant coloured drink, you immediately assume it will taste better! And trust me, this juice tastes amazing.
Ingredients
4 lightly peeled beetroots
3 carrots
3 fuji apples
small thumb of ginger
small thumb of turmeric
1 handful of broccoli
1 peeled lemon
Method
Wash all of your produce. I like to soak my fruits & vegetables in 11.5ph Kangen water, which removes any harmful pesticides. (Yes, even organic produce is sprayed!)
Run ingredients through a cold-pressed juicer. I like to juice the turmeric and ginger first.
If you like your juices extra smooth in texture, strain your juice with a metal strainer into your juice container
Pour up, drink up, enjoy!
